Inclusion of people with disabilities in the community or in government policies and programmes depends to a large extent on the way they are viewed within society and by policy makers.
Leonard Cheshire Disability promotes a rights-based approach to disability. “Rather than making a person with disability fit in with the norms of an able-bodied society, a rights approach based on the social model ensures that person with disabilities have the same rights as anybody else, and the society must adapt to their needs and ensure their rights.”
Activities taken up under this theme are - Lobbying with government for disabled friendly legislations and policies, advocating with NGOs and government functionaries for inclusion of persons with disabilities, campaigning for the rights of persons with disabilities, ensuring legal redressal of grievances and much more……
